We Love Building in Washington County
Tucked between Dodge County to its west and Ozaukee County to the east, Washington County hosts West Bend as its biggest city (and county seat) and is located in southeastern Wisconsin. This whole region is full of history, natural beauty, and an abundance of outdoor activities.
Because of its accessible location just north/northwest of Milwaukee and along the corridors of US Highways 41 and 45, the county is also well known for its businesses, trade, manufacturing companies, and retail stores.
Washington County’s land was carved by ancient glaciers, and the vast woods and inland lakes offer a variety of recreational enjoyment. Fishing, boating, golfing, snowmobiling, skiing, hiking, and hunting are just a handful of things you and your family can experience at some point throughout the year.
Saukville is the location of The Riveredge Nature Center, and it’s one of the most beautiful natural wildlife refuges in the state. It provides more than ten miles of rolling trails along 375 acres. With ponds, prairies, woods, and a mile of the Milwaukee River shoreline, you will find new areas to explore every time you take a walk.
Holy Hill is the most significant historical landmark of the county. Located on the highest elevation in this area and the town of Hubertus, this church’s official title is “The Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill”. Now you see why people just call it Holy Hill! Visitors visit from far and wide come to be a part of liturgical celebrations and to make their pilgrimage. They climb the nearby tower and, on clear days, can absorb the magnificence of Wisconsin’s landscape for miles.
For those who prefer louder and more gritty entertainment, Slinger Speedway is just the place. It’s considered the world’s fastest quarter mile oval for stock car racing. Opened in 1948, some of racing’s most notable drivers got their start here. There are races all summer long, so grab your earplugs and get your seat early.
The casual atmosphere of local restaurants in the towns of Jackson and West Bend will delight the foodie in the family. Friendly environments, great menu selections, daily specials, and unique brews will tempt your palette without draining your wallet.
For those who love to shop, there’s no reason to drive to Milwaukee. In West Bend, Richfield, Jackson, and Colgate, there is a never-ending range of boutiques and specialty stores to explore. If you’re searching for just the perfect household item, vintage furniture aficionados will have the chance to discover treasures at two malls: Germantown’s Pilgrim Antique Mall and General Store Antiques in Kewaskum.
Washington County is just 40 minutes from Milwaukee, but with everything, there is to do and see, there’s really no reason to leave home.
